Prescription Drug Plan (Medicare Part D) Insurance
Understand prescription coverage, pharmacy costs and enrollment. Request a Part D review online with local guidance in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Medicare Part D helps cover outpatient prescription drugs. You can get it through a separate drug plan with Original Medicare or through a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage. Medicare Supplement policies sold today do not include Part D. COMPARE YOUR MEDICATIONS, NOT JUST THE PREMIUM. Check each prescription’s exact name, strength and quantity against the plan’s current formulary. Review its tier, deductible, copay or coinsurance, prior authorization, step therapy and quantity limits. Compare the pharmacies you actually use: an in-network pharmacy may not have preferred pricing. HOW DRUG COSTS WORK. The separate coverage-gap phase often called the donut hole ended in 2025. Part D now has deductible, initial coverage and catastrophic phases. For 2026, the standard maximum deductible is $615 and the qualifying out-of-pocket threshold is $2,100. For 2027, those figures are $700 and $2,400. Some plans have lower deductibles. Premiums and noncovered drugs do not count toward that limit. Covered Part D drugs have no cost sharing after the qualifying threshold is reached for the year. WHEN TO REVIEW COVERAGE. Medicare Annual Enrollment runs October 15–December 7. Changes generally begin January 1. Your initial enrollment or a qualifying event may provide another enrollment opportunity. Going 63 days or longer without Part D or other creditable drug coverage after your initial enrollment period can lead to a late-enrollment penalty. HELP WITH COSTS. Extra Help may reduce Part D costs for eligible people. The optional Medicare Prescription Payment Plan spreads covered out-of-pocket drug costs across the calendar year; it does not reduce the total amount owed. LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI PLAN REVIEWS.
